Hidden camera

Security cameras are an invaluable way to monitor activity within your immediate surroundings and ward off against thieves, vandals and trespassers, as well as provided added protection for your home and property when used in association with other home security measures. But there are times when you need a measure of stealth in regards to home monitoring – and hidden cameras can be useful in that regard. Hidden cameras can be useful in quietly observing family activities without being intrusive. Hidden cameras also work in property surveillance, where you want to keep an eye on valuables and other property without letting others know they are being watched.

Hidden cameras are also used in aesthetic choices – other, more visible security cameras may detract from the surrounding décor or architecture. Most hidden camera systems are relatively inexpensive and are easy to install.
Some of the more sophisticated systems require professional installation, but the main focus here will be on the inexpensive systems that can be self-installed in a reasonable amount of time.

With hidden cameras, you have a choice between color and black & white cameras, as well as wireless applications and AC-powered vs. battery powered cameras. The key factor is considering the type of usage your hidden camera system will see. If monitoring family activity is a main concern, then a relatively simple yet effective hidden camera set up will normally be all that is needed. Some of the more sophisticated systems offer night vision along with DVR recording capabilities, allowing the footage to be recorded and stored for review at a later date. Black & white hidden surveillance cameras have their advantages in regards to performance in low light areas, since color hidden surveillance cameras often have poorer picture clarity in such situations. Unlike some wireless cameras, they usually do not have LED lights attached – these lights are often used to provide some light for the camera in dark or low light conditions – so placement in dark or low light areas should be taken into consideration.

Hidden cameras are often available in a variety of cases ranging from ultra-small cases designed to be hidden in keyholes and other small areas to cases which are disguised as ordinary and unassuming objects. Some of these cameras do feature their own self-contained DVR device to record and store video footage. Many of these cameras are battery operated. The upside is that their placement is now independent of any available power source, making them genuinely mobile and relatively easy to set up. The downside is that the batteries have to be constantly monitored in the event that they may need changing or replacement. Motion sensing hidden cameras are useful in this case; they only activate when someone steps within the assigned perimeter, thus conserving battery power.
