Wireless Camera

Wireless cameras are an inexpensive way to set up a home surveillance system. Not only is it relatively cheap to install such a system, it is also fairly easy to set one up as a “do it yourself” project. With wireless cameras, it is easy to keep tabs of your family’s activities as well as see who is at the front door. Wireless cameras also give you more choices as to where you want to place your cameras. The best aspect of a wireless camera system is that there are no wires to deal with.
Most wireless cameras offer good signal performance at distances of up to 300 feet or more, meaning that mobility is not a problem. These cameras can be moved from place to place without hassle or reconfiguration.
And with their wireless nature, it is much harder for intruders to interrupt the signal transmission of a properly placed wireless camera.
Wireless cameras often come with receivers which pick up the signals sent from the wireless camera and convert them to usable video for viewing. Some receivers also double as DVR devices which record and store video footage. The more storage capacity these DVR devices have, the more they cost. These cameras also come in black and white or color forms. Black and white cameras have their advantages in low-light conditions, as they offer clearer images as opposed to color wireless cameras. Most wireless cameras are also inexpensive – the cheapest wireless surveillance system, consisting of one or two wireless cameras and wireless receiver, can be bought for as low as $100.
Wireless cameras do have their disadvantages. Being a wireless product, the issue of potential interference with obstacles and other electrical equipment will have to be dealt with. Unobstructed, a wireless camera can operate efficiently at good distances, but when the signals are blocked by walls, objects and other obstacles, signal strength can wane, resulting in poor performance. Certain pieces of equipment, including cordless phones, can interfere with the signal strength of a wireless camera, also resulting in poor performance. Remember that the quality of the wireless signal can also affect the quality of the image seen on screen. You’ll have to make sure that the wireless camera is on a separate frequency channel than other devices such as cordless phones. One solution is to make sure the cordless phone is that of the 5ghz or higher frequency, rather than the common 2.4ghz frequency which can interfere with other devices including your wireless camera.
Some wireless surveillance cameras have battery power packs instead of AC wall adapters. These types of cameras have to be monitored constantly due to the necessity of replacing or recharging the battery packs that they use. There are certain surveillance cameras that offer power-saving features – some cameras come with motion-detecting sensors that activate the cameras in the event that someone enters the immediate proximity. It is a good idea to replace the battery packs of rechargeable cameras every six months, even if the batteries retain their charge, this is to prevent battery corrosion from occurring, which often results in a damaged or ruined wireless camera. On the upside, battery powered wireless cameras have the greatest range of mobility, and thus can be placed in nearly any location, provided it allows a clear and unobstructed signal.
